HISTORY OF SCHOOL PHARMACY
Through the years, Saint Gabriel College has flourished from the time it was founded in 1970 by the visionary couple, Dr. Ramon Baltazar Legaspi, Sr. and Dr. Jacinta Salazar-Legaspi. The Saint Gabriel College, a private, non-sectarian educational establishment. It is the first paramedical school in the province of Aklan committed to provide quality education responsive to the changing health needs of the community and the country.
Originally, the college which opened in June 1971 was named Saint Gabriel School of Nursing which catered to nursing students only. Twenty-five years later, in 2006, the college offered a three-year course which was Associate in Radiologic Technology. Over the years, the school was able to produce globally competitive and successful professionals in the field of Radiologic Technology and other medical-related professions.
Seeing the prospect of Radiologic Technology as a curricular offering, Dr. Jacinta S. Legaspi offered the position of a Dean of the newly-opened BSRT course to Mr. Archilles S. Boglosa. Being a licensed radiologic technologist, He completed a Master of Arts in Education with a Concentration in Educational Management from Aklan Catholic College from 2014 to 2016. Subsequently, he pursued another Master of Arts in Education with a focus on Administration and Supervision at the University of Iloilo from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, He has earned units towards a Doctor of Philosophy with a major in Educational Management at Aklan State University since 2023. He was most qualified to handle the position, add to that his long years of experience, his passion in teaching and clinical practice of his profession and his dedication to impart his knowledge and skills to the students.
Eventually, in 2012, the school offered Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology, Later in 2015, in accordance with the pertinent provision of Republic Act No. 7722 otherwise known “Higher Education Act of 1994 and by virtue of Resolution No. 153-2000, series of 2000, the commission on Higher Education en banc granted to Saint Gabriel College, Old Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan Government Recognition, Goverment Recognition (GR) No. 03 Series of 2015 to conduct and operate the four year Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology and Associate in Radiologic Technology.
The true test of the competence of the SGC Radiologic Technology Graduates materialized when they took their Board Licensure Examination given on July 4-5,2016 at the University of the Philippines, Iloilo City. Saint Gabriel College Bachelor of Science Radiologic Technology got the highest result in the Board Licensure Examination for Radiologic Technology in the whole region of Panay. And 100% of these passers were able to land a promising job right after their board examination.
In the following year, consistent with our desire for excellence, the second batch of graduates saw Ms. Alyssa I. Visto achieve 6th Place in the Radiologic Technology Licensure Examination held at the University of the Philippines, Iloilo City on August 30-31, 2017. Following her, Mr. John Paul E. Pader secured 7th place in the same examination administered at Iloilo National High School on July 29-30, 2018.Through young in years, it cannot be denied that the Radiologic Technology Department has produced graduates who had been successful in their chosen profession. This is in keeping with the tradition of excellence of Saint Gabriel College – excellence that has brought honor to the school after its almost half a century of existence. Together, we join hands to celebrate the success and achievements of the Radiologic Technology Department. We salute you for a job well done!
